Embrapa Soybean
Embrapa Soja - Londrina/PR
This
is a world reference center for the cultivation of soybean in the
tropics. It is also responsible for the implantation and expansion of
sunflower cultivation in Brazil.
In
collaboration with Embrapa Wheat Unit, it has developed, selected and
evaluated the best wheat cultivars for the state of Parana. It's 73
researchers strive for the stability in soybean and sunflower
production in all national territory and also wheat production in
Parana, offering more productive cultivars with genetic resistance to
pests and the major diseases.
They
have developed means of biological control for the soy pests which help
contribute to a reduced use of pesticides in the cultivation and
techniques of recovery and maintenance of the potential soil
productivity, that are safe for the environment. It also coordinates
the 'Soy on the table' program hoping to make soybean a staple food in
the Brazilian diet.
