Due to its continental dimensions, Brazil is one of the countries that has in its soil and climate diversity a great potential for viticulture. It is possible to obtain high quality wines, combining the characteristics of each area to high production technology. Embrapa Uva e Vinho, located in Bento Gonçalves, in Rio Grande do Sul, follows since 2004 the development of the new hubs producing fine wines in Brazil. That happens in different ways. One of the main points is the characterization of the regions, from the soil and climate point of view. Establishment of protocols for grape ripening control, by means of previous marking of plants. The decision about the harvest date and the definition of the most appropriate vinification process.
