This project proposes to develop selected pure lineages of maternal traits for high reproduction performance, weight gain, longevity and functional structure: selected pure lineages of terminal paternal traits for high performance, weight gain, food conversion and meat quality; and to define usage strategies to optimize genetic material (crossbreeding to form matrices and slaughter animals) with this material's cost reduction to producers. The strategy is to develop technical cooperation contracts with partners, owners of pure herds belonging to the following breeds: Large While, Landrace, Moura, Duroc and Pietrain, to apply improvement methods according to the STAGES system developed by Purdue University, which takes into account selection levels for female pigs, for maternal and paternal lineages in pigs. In addition to Embrapa Swine and Poultry, the Federal University of Viçosa, Aurora Central Cooperative and other three pig dens, which practice genetic selection on pig pure breeds, participate in this project.
