Stable fly, also known as barn fly, is very similar to the housefly, and are found in several countries in the world, mainly in areas around stables and confinements. Stable fly lays eggs and develops in vegetal or animal-originated organic residues, which are in decomposition or fermentation process. The stable fly attacks preferably confined animals, such as equines, bovines and pigs, but may also attack other domestic animals and also man. In addition to the loss of blood caused by that fly, its bites are very painful and, depending on the infestation, it causes stress, changing the animals' behavior, contributing to reduced weight loss and milk production.
