According to data from the Dutch University of Wageningen's Economic Research Institute, in the comparison of estimates of broiler chicken production costs in 2022 in three European Union countries - the Netherlands, Germany and Poland -  with Brazil and the United States, the latter two showed a lower cost. According to the researcher Peter van Horne, an economist and researcher in poultry farming who was responsible for developing the calculation tool to compare chicken meat production costs between countries and who coordinates the study, the goal is to obtain information about country competitiveness.

With regard to the data for Brazil, they refer to an air-conditioned aviary with positive pressure in the state of Paraná and were made available by Embrapa Swine and Poultry (Concórdia/SC). For Marcelo Miele, researcher in socio-economics at Embrapa Swine and Poultry, “it is important to disseminate such information to agents in the production chain in Brazil”.

Production costs in poultry farms in Brazil are the lowest compared to the other countries listed in the study: R$5.29/kg liveweight. Germany had the highest cost, at R$6.72 per liveweight kg. To make such estimates, the study assessed the following cost items: feed, day-old chicks, labor, facilities, and others. In the methodology, the item "facilities" considered maintenance, depreciation and interest on capital.
