The advancement of RNAi technology in the past 10 years has demonstrated a wide spectrum of use, and the recent commercial release of the first transgenic plant with mediated insect resistance is the first example of the use of technology in pest control. In addition to the use in transgenics, the direct application of dsRNA (topical RNAi) for pest control has become a real alternative, and will enable the use of RNAi in any crop.
