A historical hallmark for Brazilian poultry production took place on January 21, as genetics were exported to Angola. The feat was achieved by the company West Aves, which shipped a batch of chicken from lineages of industrial broilers (Embrapa 021) and industrial laying hens (Embrapa 031) developed by Embrapa Swine and Poultry.

Embrapa has partnered with West Aves since 2022 through a licensing contract to multiply and trade the poultry lineages developed by the research center. Parallely, West Aves and Embrapa established technical cooperation for the joint development of new poultry stock. The goal of the partnership is the production and trade of Brazilian genetics in its main production areas, with subsequent higher food security for Brazilians and to meet the needs of the North and Northeast of the country.

Now the partnership has just taken to higher heights as West Aves started broadening access to Brazilian genetics abroad, in Angola. "The Angolan people have high expectations with the arrival of our genetics. They want to urgently start projects that meet the need for safe foods, which is the case of the broodstock developed by Embrapa", Adilson Mognol, chairman of West Aves, explained.

The researcher Everton Krabbe, head of Embrapa Swine and Poultry, also underscores the relevance of the partnership to deliver a national product for farmers and consumers now at the world stage. “This is the result of years of research reaching the market, as an end product with high yield potential and special biosafety”, he stated.
